WHAT YOU WILL HEAR
Our guest for On The Other Side #12 is Becca Johnson. Jamie met Becca at church and has loved getting to know her and building a friendship with her. Although Jamie knew that Becca was formerly a gymnast, she had no idea that Becca had a 20-year-long career in gymnastics. The sport was a huge part of Becca’s life for so long so when it came to an end, she was faced with how to navigate life without the one thing that was everything to her. This is Becca’s story of being on the other side of a new identity.
In today’s episode, Becca tells us about her struggles with identity after living on a stage and being judged as a performer her entire life. It was a difficult transition for her to learn how to live without the goal of winning and receiving a score of 10.0. She also dives into working through comparison – not comparing herself to others, but comparing to her former self. We can only imagine what it’s like to have something be such a massive part of who you are for so long, and trying to figure out who you are when it’s over. But we love so much when Becca says, “The most important things about me have already been said by Jesus, and none of them have to do with my sport.” That is so encouraging and true. We can all relate to Becca’s story in some way, whether it’s a job or hobby or relationship, it’s a difficult process to transition out of seasons that have become a part of who we are. We are so thankful for Becca’s reminder that no matter what, we are so much more than that and we are enough because Jesus says we are.
