WHAT YOU WILL HEAR
Nick Bush came from a hard family life and in order to bury the pain, he began using drugs at age 14. It started off with marijuana and eventually grew to heroin. He truly believed he would never be free from it, but by the grace of God, a near death experience changed his life forever. This is Nick’s story of being on the other side of addiction.
In this episode, Nick dives into his journey with both addiction and freedom, and the tragedy of losing both of his siblings to heroin overdoses. He also talks about the painful cycle of treatment and relapse, and the importance of reforming legal punishment for those battling addiction. We sometimes think we know what will “fix” someone, but the reality is that so many people are enslaved and need the support of a community. He says “You can’t punish disease out of a person.” Nick’s redemptive story is one only Jesus could write, and we’re honored that he shared it with us. His book One by One: A Memoir of Love and Loss in the Shadows of Opioid America is available wherever books are sold.
